can access modem, but can't connect to the internet on Windows XP
The PPPoE method of connection is recommended for iiNet customers who use TransACT or are having difficulty logging into the internet. Modems that use this type of connection include the D-Link DSL-300, Alcatel Speed Touch Home as well as modems that have been placed into "Bridge Mode".
- We begin by going to the Start menu and then to Control Panel
- Control Panel will open in Category View .
- Choose the Category Network and Internet Connections
- The Category will open and present you with Tasks or Control Panel icons.
- Please select the Network Connections Icon .
- The Network Connections Control Panel will open up. This shows you the status of all network connections that your computer has set up.
- In the Network Tasks column is the option to Create a New Connection . Choose this please.
- If Network Tasks is not available, go to File, Create a New Connection
- You will be presented with the New Connection Wizard. This Wizard will help us to complete the connection.
- Click Next to continue
- The default option is to Connect to the Internet . If this is not checked please ensure it is checked.
- Click Next to continue.
- By default the option Connect using a dialup modem will be selected.
- Change this to Connect using a broadband modem connection that requires a username and password .
- Click Next to continue
- Type the name you want for the connection here.
- In this case iiNet is sufficient.
- Click Next to continue
- In Internet Account Authentication we enter the information for our account.
- Username : Your username from iiNet
- Password: Type your password from iiNet
- Confirm Password: Retype your password here
- Ensure that both of the extra options are ticked.
- Click Next to continue
- This is the end of the wizard.
- Add a tick to the box for Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop .
- Click Finish to continue.
- The connection will open up immediately with your username and password
- Click Connect to being the process for connecting to the internet.
- You will note that there is a new option in your Network Connections that is called iiNet under Broadband. This is the connection to use in future.
Well done! You should now be able to browse the Internet normally.
