Dialup modems on computers running Microsoft Windows can perform a simple diagnostics check on themselves to determine if there are any faults.

So how do we run this diagnostic? Easy! Follow the steps in our guide.

• We start by going to the Control Panel and then to Phone and Modem Options
• Change to the Modems tab and click on Properties
• On the new window that opens, change to the Diagnostics tab
• In the Diagnostics window will be a button with the words Query Modem - click on this button
• The window above the button will fill with information as the modem checks itself
• Once the check is complete check for the word FAIL - if this word is not present then the modem can be considered fine for use.
