dialup setup on Mac OS X 10.2

Older Macs with 10.2.8 or below should have a dialup modem built-in to the machine. As a result this makes dialup internet very easy to setup.

To start, go to System Preferences via the Apple icon in the top left menu bar or via the Dock as shown below.

System Preferences

1. System Preferences

You will be presented with the following options under System Preferences. Choose Network under the Internet & Network section to continue.

2. Network

Network will automatically bring you to Built-In Ethernet.

Go up to the "Show" drop down menu and change this to "Internal Modem".

Under the "PPP" tab fill in your service provider name as "iiNet" and enter your iinet username and password supplied to you. The dialup "Telephone Number" should be as below, but you can check if it is up to date by visiting our dialup settings support.

Click the "Modem" tab to continue.

Input the Modem settings as shown below, making sure that the correct modem is selected for your Mac. Here we can see that the option for Modem status in the menubar is ticked. We can use this to control the dialup connection. Click "Apply Now" to save the changes and close down the window.

Now you're ready to give the dialup connection a go. The modem status should now be displayed as a phone icon in the top right hand side of your desktop menu bar. To connect to the Internet, click on the phone icon and choose the "Connect" option. You can use this same icon to disconnect when you're finished.
