VOIP adapter (ATA Device) setup guide
Setting up a Belkin ATA on iiNet VOIP or iiTalk is slightly more complex than on a modem/router. This is because your ATA needs to connect and work with your current modem/router to allow VOIP/iiTalk to work.
Ensure that you have connected your ATA unit to your modem/router as shown in the setup booklet that came with your hardware. Should you not have access, then the steps below will be useful.
ATA Hardware Setup
- Remove the ATA from the box and place it next to your modem/router.
- Connect the supplied blue (Ethernet/Networking) cable to the green port on the back of the ATA unit marked "Connection to Router". Ensure that the clip on the end of the cable is facing down and clicks into place.
- Connect the other end of the blue cable into a free LAN or Network port on your modem. Should you not have one (eg you only have a single port modem) you will require a router unit so that you can share your internet connection amongst your computer and your ATA unit. This also becomes useful should you need to share your internet amongst multiple computers/devices in future. If you own an iiNet Belkin modem you do not require an ATA unit - your modem is already setup for VOIP and only requires a telephone handset or cordless base station plugged into the unit and an active VOIP/iiTalk account.
- Connect a telephone cable (square plugged RJ connector) into the Line 1 port on your ATA, again with the clip facing down. It will click firmly into place.
- Connect the other end of your telephone cable into your telephone handset or cordless base station.
- Connect the power cord to your ATA unit, plug into the wall power socket and switch on. Your hardware setup is complete. Please proceed to VOIP/iiTalk setup.
ATA VOIP/iiTalk Setup
- Insert the Setup CD that came with your ATA.
- The CD will auto load a program called the ATA Discovery Tool.
- The Discovery Tool will attempt to locate an IP address on your system. This will be shown in the "Discovery/Results" section.
- Your web browser should then open and present you with a log in screen. The password to use is "admin" (in lower case with no quote marks), then click Submit.
- Click Setup Wizard and then the box for VOIP account 1.
- Enter your VOIP/iiTalk phone number and password in the area provided with no spaces (Do not use your broadband username and password - these will fail). Select your state and then click Register. The screen will update and the word SUCCESS should appear next to VOIP registration. If not, try clicking Apply Changes or repeat steps 3 to 6.
